The diagnosis of food allergy and recommendation of a strict elimination diet may leave patients feeling overwhelmed at the task ahead. However, learning to incorporate the elimination diet into everyday situations and to always be prepared to handle the unexpected is the cornerstone to managing food allergies. Following are names and phone numbers for health organizations, support groups, supply companies, and other sources of information created to help patients learn to manage their allergy successfully. Most organizations will send patients free information or provide assistance by phone. Many will send free samples to physicians’ offices to facilitate distribution to patients. National support organization provides information and referral services for persons with celiac sprue. A California nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to providing services and support to persons with celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis through programs of awareness, education, advocacy, and research.
