ABSTRACT
An overview of expert systems in civil engineering, excluding those described in other chapters of the book, is presented in this chapter. At present, expert systems are most effective in areas where judgement and experience plays an important role and there is no underlying theory or the theory is inadequate for a satisfactory solution to the problem.
