ABSTRACT
Fred Bongard Shock is defined as the inadequate delivery o f oxygen and nu trien ts at the cellular
level. It m u st be u n d e rsto o d th a t shock m ay be organ specific and th a t n o t all organs are underperfused simultaneously. Indeed, as shock progresses, there exists a hierarchy o f organ perfusion so th a t som e organs such as the heart and brain m ay be m inim ally affected, while o ther tissues such as skin and m uscle m ay be severely com prom ised.
