ABSTRACT

The line shapes of luminescence and absorption are mirror images of one another. Namely, the line shape functions of absorption A(ħw) and luminescence F(ħw) are related by A(ħw) = F(2We – ħw) (14.1) Where We is the energy of the zero point line. In Fig. 14.3, when the shapes of the potentials of the excited and ground states of the adiabatic potential are different, the absorption line has a long tail described by Urbach’s rule.
