The guidelines recognise the following points. 1. The goal of medicine is not just to prolong life at all costs. 2. It is lawful to withhold CPR on the basis that to do so would be in the
patient’s best interests, where consideration has been given to relevant medical factors and the quality of life of patients who lack capacity.
