ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the aim and the background of the ultrasonography. It examines four imaging techniques of ocular ultrasound modalities such as A-scan, B-scan, ultrasound biomicroscopy, and Doppler ultrasound. The chapter provides information on B-scan settings. It also provides a list of equipment required for performing imaging. It presents the instructions and procedure for performing B-scan. The chapter also presents a bullet-pointed, step-by-step walk-through of the key steps for the skill, with specific pearls. The use of B-scan ultrasound in ophthalmic practice remains an important skill to master, and new applications for high-resolution ultrasound imaging techniques, such as UBM, are being found in both research and clinical fields.
