ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the surgical measures for protection of the ocular surface. It aims to establish temporary or permanent protection of the ocular surface to encourage the re-epithelialisation of chronic corneal ulcers. The chapter presents clinical context, equipment lists, anatomical landmark, and procedure for performing everting sutures, sutured temporary tarsorrhaphy, and permanent three-layer tarsorrhaphy. It also presents bullet-pointed, step-by-step walk-through of the key steps for the skill, with specific pearls.
