ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the background of the temporal artery biopsy. It aims to obtain sufficient vascular and perivascular tissue to allow histological assessment in cases of suspected giant-cell arteritis. The chapter provides a list of equipment required for the temporal artery biopsy. The chapter provides the step-by-step process of the consent and the anatomical landmarks. It presents the methods of undertaking practical procedures of the temporal artery biopsy and examines post-operative consideration. A bullet-pointed, step-by-step walk-through of the key steps for the skill, with specific pearls are also presented.
