ABSTRACT

Young people are sexually active at an increasingly younger age. Sticking our heads in the sands and hoping that ‘someone else will address the issue’ is not only unhelpful but also possibly harmful. It’s important that youth be given the opportunity to discuss sexuality. When we consider substance use and the impact it can have on impulsivity, decision-making and the lowering of inhibition, educating ourselves and exploring sexual health with teenagers who use drugs is vital. In this chapter, we will examine the possible risks inherent when sexuality and substance use are mixed, as well as the substance use-related sexual issues that may need to be addressed.
