ABSTRACT

The Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA) is provided as a two- hour open- book online examination which comprises eight sections based on eight main types of peer- reviewed questions. It is designed specifically to meet the professional development needs of the PSA candidates as well as the prescribing competencies outlined by the General Medical Council. This chapter provides eight ‘Drug Monitoring’ question items in the PSA worth 2 marks each (16 marks in total). The questions are related to medicines, surgery, elderly care, paediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynaecology, and general practice. These questions enable the PSA candidates and other students or healthcare professionals to develop the skills and knowledge required to conduct an effective clinical review of a patient’s pharmaceutical care, and to enhance their knowledge of clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of commonly used medicines.
