ABSTRACT

In adults the spinal cord terminates between T12 and L2, but generally between L1 and L2. The spinal nerves for the lumbar, sacral and coccygeal regions descend from the cord at a higher level as the cauda equina, and exit the central spinal canal inferior to the pedicles of their respective levels (i.e. the L3 spinal nerves will exit beneath the pedicle of L3).
