Pinna Inspect the pinna for scars, skin tags, sinuses and abscesses and look behind the pinna for missed abscess. Next examine the external ear canal for any discharges (cheesy smell – cholesteatoma, purulent – otitis media, sanguineous – trauma, watery – CSF) or eczema.
