ABSTRACT

Robotic thyroidectomy is the product of evolution of minimally invasive surgery for thyroid disease. It is mainly indicated for nodules less than 4 cm and benign disease although the indications are evolving. Multiple approaches have been described over the years. The main approaches utilized today are transaxillary, bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA), retroauricular, and transoral. Each approach has its advantages and limitations. Robotic thyroidectomy is as safe as conventional thyroidectomy with similar oncological outcomes. The main advantage for this technique is the superior cosmetic results which translate into improved patient satisfaction.
