ABSTRACT

Evolution of parathyroid surgery has advanced by leaps and bounds over the past few decades. This can be attributed to better understanding of the biology of disease, improved imaging techniques, and refined surgical rationale. The following text endeavors to provide some consensus towards indications for surgery, risks and benefits of various approaches, and special considerations for syndromic associations. It also attempts to highlight the importance of diagnostic and therapeutic adjuncts such as functional imaging and intra-operative PTH assessments in management.
