ABSTRACT

Though relatively uncommon, surgical problems of the thyroid gland in children are a distinct entity. Thus, a multidisciplinary team should essentially be involved in their care. Many of these pathological conditions have links to embryological and/or genetic origin, and therefore thorough anatomical knowledge for precise management and avoiding injury to vital structures (parathyroids, RLN) is important. Ideally, a center of high -volume thyroid surgeons (rather than specialty specific surgeons) along with multidisciplinary teams of endocrinologists, pediatricians, nuclear medicine physicians, anesthesiologists, and pathologists should take care of such children.
