ABSTRACT

In the scope of this book, the direct and indirect impacts of

current and future products, production processes, and services of

nanotechnology on the energy sector are analysed and evaluated.

Chapter 4.2 gives an overview of the environmental impact and en-

ergy demand of nanotechnology. The potential analysis begins with

the evaluation of the possible impacts on a changing energy demand

as well as the required energy sources by identifying the status quo

and the possible direct and indirect impacts of nanotechnology on

all branches of industry, i.e., the change in energy demand as well as

reduction potentials and possible efficiency enhancements. Indirect

influences refer to the use of products, applications and services

based on nanotechnologies (see Figure 4.1).
