ABSTRACT
We have, as described in the previous chapters, analyzed the planar optical waveguides in which the guiding region is a slab imbedded between a substrate and a superstrate having an identical refractive index. The guiding of lightwaves in an optical fiber is similar to that of the planar waveguide except the lightwaves are guiding through a circular guiding structure.
