ABSTRACT
In this chapter, a full, scalar, coupled-mode analysis is presented for both the two-mode and the fiber-slab guided-wave couplers. It generalizes the simplified analysis of Chapter 6 and, when the weakly guiding and coupling conditions are valid, should reduce to that described in Chapter 6. An effort has been made to keep the format of the full formulations similar to that in Chapter 6 so that most of the analytical results derived there can be utilized, except for the fact that the full term is now retained throughout the analysis.
