ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, we discussed microprocessor-based data acquisition systems and data processing systems that are used for measurement of not only combustion systems but other systems as well. Recall that we also discussed data acquisition and data handling in terms of how the integrity of data must be maintained properly as it can lead to misinterpretation of actual phenomena during a process. In this chapter we will learn how to properly analyze the measured data in order to have a better understanding of the phenomena during a process or to control the process. The objective of this chapter is to teach readers how to analyze experimental data and identify and estimate various types of experimental errors. Various types of statistical tools are discussed to analyze errors in experimental data that can be used for the measurement of combustion as well as

other measurement systems. In order to develop a physical understanding of the subject, various types of graphical analysis are covered. Some commonly used curve-fitting techniques are also covered briefly, as well as a short introduction to report writing.
