ABSTRACT

Continuous groups, particularly the transformation groups such as SU(3) and SU(6), have played a significant role in the development of elementary particle physics and have given rise to spectacular progress in our understanding of particles and their interactions. In this chapter, we will study continuous groups and their properties. The subject, however, will not be developed in a mathematically rigorous manner. Our aim is to introduce the concept of continuous groups and discuss their characteristics in a manner easily comprehensible to physicists.
