Aromatic polyimides containing bulky side groups are of great interest because of their improved solubility in organic solvents and, as a result, improved processability [1-10]. Usually starting monomers containing bulky side groups are unavailable and are based on expensive raw materials. On the other hand, a large variety of aromatic diamines containing phenoxy, thiophenoxy and other bulky substituents were obtained starting with 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), a major explosive component of ammunition liable to liquidation [11-17]. The structures of some TNT -based diamines are given in Fig. 1.
