ABSTRACT
Biomaterialsmustpossessadequatesurfaceandbulkcharacteristicswhenthey areusedinbiologicalenvironmentsinordertofulfillthedualrequirementsofdesirablebiocompatibilityandmechanicalpropertiesforspecialapplications.Currently,however,mostsyntheticmaterialsonlydisplaygoodbulkcharacteristics. Therefore,itisnecessarytofindsuitableapproachestoimprovethesurfacepropertiesofmaterials,whichpossessotherwisedesirablebulkcharacteristics,foruse inbiologicalenvironments.Onegoodwaytoachievethisisthroughthinfilms deposition.
