ABSTRACT

Table 5 displays the adhesion force measurement results normalized by R*. Also, the values of work of adhesion (WA) were calculated using the D M T contact mechanics model. To validate the use of D M T mechanics to describe the adhesion contact in the A F M experiment, the Maugis parameter was calculated [44]. The dimensionless parameter (X) was calculated using the following formula [44]:

where z0 is the equilibrium separation distance between the probe and the substrate, R is the radius of the probe, and K is the reduced elastic modulus of the contacting system.
