ABSTRACT

Agriculture production is seriously affected by plant diseases and insect pests. Therefore, real-time and accurate prediction of diseases and insect pests is very important in order to make correct decisions for farmers. In recent years, the concept of the prediction systems has become more and more important. A lot of plant disaster monitors and forecast stations have been established in many areas. However, the prediction function of these stations did not work well because it is lag in technology and low in prediction accuracy. Therefore, the monitor, prediction, control and decision-making technology based on ANN have become the principal research direction in the prediction of diseases and insect pests in China. There have been a number of advancement in the application of ANN in disease and insect pest prediction in recent years. Disease and insect pest prediction with ANN has been a new method, because ANN can process altitudinal non-linear problems, and has the ability of self-organization and self-study. However, it is not enough to access accurate prediction alone. Real-time information release is also a key technology for farmers. So, WebGIS is developed to be a platform in the prediction. As a powerful tool for geo-referenced data analysis, GIS facilitates the integration of diverse data from multiple sources to be analyzed conveniently and for displaying them visually. Furthermore, GIS is extended and perfected via Internet technology, allowing everyone to access complex geographic data using Web browser, and acquire visualized information analyzed by GIS.
