ABSTRACT

According to Hevner et al. (Hevner et al. 2004) two scientific approaches characterize much of the research in the information systems (IS) discipline, namely behavioral science and design science research (DSR). Behavioral science addresses research through the development and justification of theories that describe, explain or predict existing phenomena in a domain. DSR addresses research through the construction and evaluation of innovative artifacts that are intended to solve important, relevant design problems in the domain. Both types of research reflect the respective foundations and methodologies in order to provide guidance for researchers.
