ABSTRACT

Abstract-In this work imide tetraacidylated amine (ITA) polyimide binders (polyimide was formed by reacting 3,3’,4,4’-benzophenone-tetracarboxylic dianhydride with tetraacetyl derivative of 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl ether) and a new ITA (polyimide was formed by reacting pyromellitic dianhydride with tetraacetyl derivative of 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl ether, PMDA-ODA) were synthesized. These polyimides with the addition of pitch were used as precursors of matrices for carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and carbon/carbon (C/C) composites. Structural, mechanical and tribological properties of CFRP and C/C composites were investigated. It was shown that turbostratic structure (graphite-like structure of carbon) was obtained in the C/C composite based on the new ITA after graphitization at 2200oC/h. This led to improvement of tribological and crack resistance properties.
