ABSTRACT

Abstract-Recently,ithasbeenshownthattheEarth'sseismicityandprobabilityofearthquake occurrenceinagivenregiondependsonastronomicalfactors:thegeographicallatitudeoftheevent, andtherelativeattitudeoftheEarth,theSunandtheMoon.Ananalysisoftheannualearthquake distributionsinsomePacificregions(SouthAmerica,AleutianIslands,KamchatkaPeninsula,Kuril Islands,NewZealandandothers)wascarriedoutfordifferentmagnitudeintervals.Theworldwide InternationalSeismicCatalog(ISC)wasused.Theaftershockswerecanceledfromthelist.All eventsforeachregionweredividedintofollowingmagnitudelevels:4:(Mb<4.5;4.5:(Mb<5; 5:(Mb<5.5;5.5:(Mb<6.0;6:(Mb.Theeventsineachmagnitudelevelweresubdivided intotwogroups:shallowevents(H:(80km)anddeepevents(H>80km).Thenweinvestigated ifthedistributionsoftheeventsduringtheyearperiodareuniformornot.Wetesteditseparatelyfor eachregion,foreverymagnitudelevelandforeverydepthlevel.Thenullhypothesisaboutuniform earthquakedistributionsinthecourseofyearforshallowevents(withlessthan5%significancelevel) wasnotproven.butdeepearthquakeswereconfirmed.Thenoticeableincreaseinthenumberof seismiceventsinshorttimeintervals.asaruletwotimesperyear,andsignificantreductionofseismic activityintherestoftheyearwasshown.Itwasshownthatthemainmaximumoftheseismicevents occursinDecember(minimumEarth-Sundistance).Itisnecessarytoremindthatthecatastrophic earthquakesin2003and2004(IndonesiaandIrani)occurredon26December.
