ABSTRACT

Abstract Responsive polymer composite films were generated using polybenzoxazine-silica nanoparticle hybrid films for response to a solvent (25% EtOH(aq)). The proper surface chemical composition for the reversible wettability as well as the surface roughness can be achieved simultaneously in a two-step process. The achievable range of the water contact angle of the composite film is between 167◦ and 88◦, i.e., from superhydrophobicity to hydrophilicity. Furthermore, the water contact angle of this hybrid film can be easily modified to a desired value by simply controlling the immersion time and drying time.
