ABSTRACT

Dynamic centrifuge tests have been performed on battered micropile groups (Juran et al. 1998)

1 INTRODUCTION

In many codes the behavior of inclined pile is considered as detrimental (Eurocodes 8 part 5 AFNOR 2005). Gazetas (2003) indicates that the main drawbacks are the reduction of the bending capacity due to large tensile forces, the bending moments being induced by the possible settlement and the larges forces at the pile cap interface. However recent research highlights that in certain cases, battered piles can have beneficial behavior (Kastranta et al. 1998). Nevertheless, very few instrumented case histories or experimental data is available and the effect of battered piles is not clearly established.
