ABSTRACT

Analytical studies on batter piles subjected to a lateral load are rather limited. Meyerhof and Poulos (2006) studied the response of a 3 × 2 pile group subjected to lateral ground movement via a simplified hypothetical example using a computer program EMPIG. It was found that the presence of raked piles in groups subjected to vertical and lateral loading reduces the lateral pile head deflection. The 3-D finite element analysis of two pile groups under seismic loading carried out by Gerolymos et al. (2008) showed that the groups with batter piles provide larger lateral stiffness.
