ABSTRACT

The sand box model involves flow through a porous medium. The sand box model used consists of a glass tank and has the dimensions of 1.50 m (length) × 0.60 m (height) × 0.10 m (width). The frame of the tank was constructed from aluminium. The front wall was a 1 cm thick glass plate which was used for observations to monitor hydraulic potential. Piezometers in glass tubes were fitted in the back of the sand box model. Figure 1 shows a front view of the model as well as the supporting elements of the sand box apparatus, while Figure 2 illustrates the model dimensions.
