ABSTRACT

Recent years have seen an explosive growth in the number of internet working systems due to the evolution of computer systems and the Internet. Such systems must remain not only “up-and-running” but also be “secure”—against any form of unwanted harmful actions such as

attack, misuse, and abuse. It is very important that security mechanisms of systems be designed to prevent unauthorized access to system resources and data. Actually, completely preventing breaches of security appears to be unrealistic. However, we can try to detect these intrusion attempts so that actions may be taken to repair the damage. This domain of research is called Intrusion Detection.
