Abstract. The preparation and characterization of a La-Sr-Ga-Mg-O (LSGM) sample having composition La/Sr/Ga/Mg = 0.8/0.2/0.8/0.2 is here reported, based on a co-precipitation route in aqueous medium. The formation of LSGM phase was predominant already after calcination at 1000 °C. A subsequent calcination at 1400 °C led to the formation of a highly sintered system, mainly consisting of LSGM. However, few percents of secondary phases were still detectable. XRD, SEM, TG-DTA and FT-IR characterization, as well as impedance spectroscopic measurements, were performed. The preparation route was reproducible and led us to obtain a final material that consisted of an LSGM phase with a rombohedric structure and 15% (w/w) of secondary phases. Electrical results on the synthesized material evidenced an encouraging ionic conductivity of about 0.01 S/cm at 1000 K, althogh lower than the one reported for the material prepared via solid state reaction.
