ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to treat the problem of polynomial image interpolation adaptively to obtain better results. The demand for high-quality interpolation results has motivated research in the field of adaptive image interpolation. The warped-distance algorithm is the simplest adaptive image interpolation algorithm. The idea of distance warping can be used in the implementation of any polynomial interpolation technique. All image interpolation techniques have been tested on the low-resolution image with a support whose length is one more than the order of the interpolation kernel. The performances of the traditional image interpolation techniques, their warped-distance implementation, and their iterative implementation have been studied for different signal-to-noise ratios on both the woman and test pattern images. Some experiments have also been carried out to compare the performance of the iterative interpolation algorithm to the commercially available image processing software products such as ACDSee and PhotoPro.
