ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter has endeavoured to document the consequences of the introduction of occupational safety and health legislation in Western Australia at a time when the contracting industry began to emerge as a signicant force in the industry. The outstanding feature of this combination of factors was the co-operative and positive approach taken by industry, its contractors and the regulatory authority to achieve an almost seamless transition to the adoption of the legislation. The resultant world leadership in occupational health and safety should be recognised
