ABSTRACT

Abstract The blending compositions of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)/polyamide resin (PA-54R) with moderate hydrophilic property were studied. The mixing was carried out using Brabender’s plastographer and on the special technique by pressing of powders blends. Produced films have the 10-150 µm thickness. The composition of blend with various PHB concentrations (0-100 wt%) was examined by the specially developed technique by applying Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The water content is reduced linearly with the increase in PHB concentration as more hydrophobic material. The structure of composites microinhomogeneities was studied using isotope D-H exchange method. The blends of PHB and PA-54R form the partly miscible phases with heterogeneous matrices. The PHB/PA-54R ratio regulates the hydrolysis and the biodestruction rates of examined blends in the presence of water.
