ABSTRACT

The air interface of WiMAX technology is based on IEEE802.16 standards. These standards provide specifications for PHY and MAC layer functionalities. In particular the current mobile WiMAX technology is based on IEEE 802.16e, which specifies an OFDMA air interface and provides support to mobility. The network specification of mobile WiMAX technology targets an end-to-end all-IP architecture optimized for a wide range of IP services, including network interoperability. The NWG of the WiMAX forum is responsible for these specifications, which complements IEEE 802.16e specifications. Figure 11.1 presents the composition of mobile WiMAX technology, commonly referred to as the Release 1.0 profile [3].
