chapter  5
Descriptive animal toxicology tests
Pages 16

The information derived from descriptive animal toxicology tests is useful in determining the potential toxicity of a compound to humans as well as animals. The objective of these tests is to identify a toxic chemical at an early stage of its development, marketing, or distribution, especially if the substance is already commercially available. Together with in vitro tests, animal tests are applied as biological markers of chemically induced risks, whether the substances are synthetic or occur naturally.
