This chapter introduces the main theme of the book, which focuses on the physics of premixed turbulent combustion. The goals of this chapter are to highlight the key global effects of turbulence on premixed £ames and to discuss the following issues:
• What happens to a laminar premixed £ame when it enters a turbulent £ow? • How does the in£uence of turbulence on premixed combustion appear
generally? • What differences between laminar and turbulent £ames are best
pronounced? • What are the key general features of premixed turbulent £ames?
