Project management is the act of applying a disciplined approach to a set of activities. is chapter explores the discipline of project management and explains how elements of the discipline are used to achieve the best possible outcomes for any project. Dierent levels of formalization provide the ability to fully implement project management methods in dierent environments based on the different needs of the project. Traditional project management methods versus exible project management methods, and the dierences between projects, programs, and portfolios are then reviewed in Sections 1.2 through 1.7.
