ABSTRACT

The bones of the fingers are the most commonly fractured bones in the human body, accounting for roughly 10% of all fractures. Half of all finger fractures occur in the proximal and middle phalanges, and the other half in the distal phalanx. Most phalangeal fractures can be treated nonoperatively with splinting alone. Fractures involving the articular surfaces and those with accompanying tendon or soft tissue injury are more complicated and usually require operative intervention. This chap ter will focus on the commonly encountered fractures.
