ABSTRACT
Background Anesthesia is a state o f reversible loss o f awareness and reflex reactions to noxious
stimuli. The many diverse agents of anesthesia interact with neural cell membranes on a molecular basis to affect transmission of pain stimuli. These agents primarily interact with ion channels responsible for propagating action potentials.
