ABSTRACT

Causative Agent Baylisascariasis is caused by the nematode parasite Baylisascaris procyonis. The

North American raccoon (Procyon lotor) is the definitive host for B. procyonis. B. procyonis is also recognized as one of the most common causes of visceral larva migrans in animals, causing infection in over 100 species other than raccoons. Humans are infected as accidental intermediate hosts.
