ABSTRACT
Smooth muscle cells and bundles are seen in the dermis as part of the arrector pilaris muscle. Bundles of smooth muscle cells are also seen randomly distributed in the dermis, in the area of the areola, as well as in the scrotum (dartos). Smooth muscle tumors in the skin originate from these normal anatomical locations and also from the smooth muscle cells from the walls of arteries and veins.
