ABSTRACT

There are multiple vascular proliferations involving the skin, most of them benign. Since their morphologies are variable, the classifications are not totally satisfactory. It is helpful to divide the vascular proliferations into tumors and malformations. Both of them can be congenital or acquired. Furthermore, they should be classified as superficial and deep, the latter involving full dermis and at least some of the subcutaneous tissue. Most vascular malformations will have a deep component in addition to the superficial one. Vascular tumors, on the other hand, are often superficial, particularly in the case of most acquired capillary hemangiomas.
