Marcus Aurelius Cavallini was a poised and extroverted junior surgical resident who knew at his young age how to treat colleagues and patients with elegance, superb caring, and visible compassion. He had arrived from Naples in southern Italy two years ago, and had adapted fairly well to American cultural standards. One thing was universal, Marcus Aurelius felt, the virtues of men, and of these, the practice of loyalty in particular.
