ABSTRACT

Yeast from the gender Trichosporon, especially T. cutaneum, can cause superficial infections of the hair, skin, or fingernails known as nodosa trichosporia (white rock). This is characterized by soft nodules of the hair as well as by onychomycosis and otomycosis. It occurs in diabetics and in immunocompromised persons (AIDS), as an accompaniment of pneumonia or disseminated infection.
