Liver Cancer Joseph A. Kuhn, ToddM. McCarty, and Robert M. Goldstein Scope of the Problem Hepatocellular carcinoma represents the most common tumor in males world
wide. In the Far East and Africa, this tumor has a reported incidence of 150 per 100,000 population. In the United States, hepatocellular carcinoma represents less than 2% of all tumors and has an incidence of 1-4 cases per 100,000 population. However, the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma is increasing both in the United States and in other countries, mainly as a consequence of hepatitis C.
