ABSTRACT

Introduction Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common cancer diagnosed in

the United States. It is estimated that at least 1 million patients are treated for this disease each year. The most common types are basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Patients rarely die from these cancers since they rarely metastasize. Most of the morbidity results from local invasion. Treatment frequently includes some form of surgery to remove the tumor with clear margins and thereby prevent recurrence.
