ABSTRACT
T he objective o f this com m unication is to analyze th e ev idence th a t ca lc ito n in gene-related pep tide (CG RP), an endog enous relaxant peptide o f sm ooth muscle, is involved in two crucial adaptations tha t occur du ring m am m alian pregnancy:
1. vasod ila tion o f m a ternal system ic circulation, and
2. uterine quiescence before parturition . Potential com pensatory roles o f CGRP in vascular adaptations tha t could occur in re sponse to hypertension during pregnancy, will also be evaluated.
